Berlin! Berlin! Wir fahren nach Berlin!

by Simon

SIMON&ME x Bright Tradeshow Winter 2012 Berlin

Last wednesday, we spontaneously packed our stuff and drove (8 hours in the smallest car ever) from Amsterdam to Berlin for the 14th edition of the Bright Tradeshow. To put it precisely, we were part of their recently launched 'All Tomorrows' area, which is a '[...]platform for emerging designers and labels of tomorrow.' and features '[...]a selection of hand picked newcomers as well as brands who are making a statement through outstanding graphic, design or individuality.', as it states on their website.

And yes, indeed, we were surrounded by a couple of awesome brands and could not have been happier than exhibiting in the 'All Tomorrows' area.

My personal favourites definitely have been Mishka NYC with their amazing live painting by their Creative Director of Special Projects - Lamour Supreme; Alias One with their removable patches; and Vuerich B. which recycle old skateboards and translate those into unique, high quality sunglasses.

But also the rest of the labels has been on a impressively high level, especially the people behind their brands have all been amazing.

Of course we also enjoyed some of the many parties that have been going on during these days; even though it was nearly impossible to choose due to the surplus of parties around with the Bread & Butter, Fashion Week, Sleek etc. all taking place at the same time... Eventually, we only made it to the Official WeSC Bread & Butter Berlin Party at Bar Barbette and the official after party of the Bright European Skate Awards hosted by the House of Vans Berlin in a great location, the Department Club.

We would like to thank all of you who visited the SIMON&ME booth, the Bright crew which made the whole thing super easy and comfortable and simply everyone who made this all happen for us.

Berlin - Thank you for having us and see you again soon!

THIS IS KRISTOF

by SIMON&ME

THIS IS KRISTOF x SIMON&ME
Our Amsterdam based, UK born friend Kristof has made his mark in Amsterdam‘s dance and electro scene by blending ‘edgy techno rythm‘ with ‘cutting electro‘. His individual style of tectronic music came to represent Kristof‘s ‘greater voice coming through in the music‘ he plays, produces and loves to ‘get wild to‘. That guy holds some future promises. Listen to and read about what he has to say - enjoy your weekend...

SIMON&ME
Where are you from?

Kristof
The glory hole that is the United Kingdom.

SIMON&ME
What are you doing at the moment?

Kristof
I have just finished my masters degree at the UvA and have been working this alongside my music career. Now I'm dedicating more time to the later, DJing and production.

SIMON&ME
What fascinates you about music?

Kristof
The ability to feel free from opinion and judgment. It is really an experience good and makes me feel that their is nothing more important than that moment right then. It's also something great because you can share it with so many others if you choose to, like-minded and interested individuals. Its a life blood in essence.

SIMON&ME
Amsterdam & Music - What does this mean to you?

Kristof
Amsterdam is a very fertile home ground for so many different people from all over the world. The concept of being a citizen of the city can really be felt in comparison to other cities in the Netherlands given the really diverse international crowd. This is why the music scene is really something that is still coming into its own in many ways, as well as setting a certain bar for so many people. I think that both of these entities share a great synergy with one another. The city is rather small in comparison to other cultural capitals in Europe, but that is why it is such a perfect location for young and aspirational youth looking for the future solutions and business models.

SIMON&ME
What do you like about SIMON&ME?

Kristof
I really like the nature of the brand itself as it is giving a very sleek and expressive mould in the faculty of streetwear. This is a really ambitious and dynamic approach to creation, and I can honestly admire the passion that has gone into creating such a contemporary brand. I see big things to come in the future...

SIMON&ME
Club recommandations for Amsterdam?

Kristof
I believe that is is really about the night that they have, yet there are some really special locations. Trouwis certainly a personal favourite, it reminds me deeply of the old Club 11 - the owners took that concept over to Trouw and it seems to have worked perfectly. Studio/K is also a great location, really defining itself as a primary venue in the city. I run a night called Green Room over there and we've had not only a great location but also a great team to work with.

SIMON&ME
One last question: what´s your favorite drink?
Kristof
Ti Punch - Caribbean rum, brown sugar and lime. Mmm...

SIMON&ME
Who are you?
Mannequine
We'r a DJ/Producer Duo from Zurich Switzerland. Since late 2010, we stopped pursuing our individual plans and started our journey as Mannequine.

Mannequine x SIMON&ME

SIMON&ME
What is the background of your name - MANNEQUINE?
Mannequine
In the fashion world mannequins are ambassadors for brands. Music is very much like fashion. DJ's are responsible for forming and shaping musical tastes. So the name couldn't fit better.

SIMON&ME
What fascinates you about mixing and music?
Mannequine
Its a priceless feeling seeing people loving what you do. There is no bigger motivation for keep going on.

SIMON&ME
How would you describe your style?
Mannequine
Style is something you gain over time. Experiences and impressions make who you are. Mannequine started out not even a year ago, so we're still kind of experimenting with everything that comes along.
SIMON&ME
What are your future plans both personally and as MANNEQUINE?
Mannequine
The biggest dream of ours is to tour the world. Traveling widens your horizons and opens new opportunities. To combine this with what we love most - music - would be just amazing. We are really hoping Mannequine is going to stay alive and that people keep believing in what we do, as we both don't have a clue what else we should do. Feel free to inspire us!

SIMON&ME
Club recommendations for Zurich?
Mannequine
If you're electronic from inside out, Hive is your safest bet. You never end up going home regretting you paid admission, because it's always worth it! If you're about sipping drinks and conversation accompanied by interesting music you better go for the brand new BLOK club. For us it's always a blast to play there, not only because of the perfect sound system quality. The people behind this venue are pioneers of making zurich the best party city in Switzerland and we feel honored to have one of our residencies there.

SIMON&ME
What do you like about SIMON&ME?
Mannequine
SIMON&ME is authentic. We love the website, as it shows you're doing all this with much heart and love for detail. We WILL definitely be proud to have known you first, as we're sure the brand is going to make a huge difference in the scene. AND those ladies shorts u guys did are really big time! Girlfriends just about to go crazy. :)

SIMON&ME
What is the highest springboard you jumped from?
Mannequine
Actually we're more about stagediving than springboarding, but the last bridge we jumped of was high as shit and the water was cold. We recommend: Stay out of the water, when you're still holding a drink in your hands!
Mannequine Partout!
